Do we need common standards for the European welfare systems? If so, in which way should it be realized? Actual problems like health, pension, and unemployment are difficult to manage, but are they issues on the supranational level of the European Union? These questions will be discussed by students, politicians and the general public in a controversial debate about the future of Europe: How far we want to stretch with an introduction of a common social union?

Guests are warmly welcomed to join the debate on Tuesday, December 16th at 7 pm at the Lund University, Geocentrum I, Room “Flygeln” (Sölvegatan 10). The entry is free and without application. Guest speakers are Björn Ahlin (Green Party), Member of the Local Parliament, and N.N. (to be decided soon).

All guests can actively join the debate: The speakers have to face the questions and statements of the audience. After short opening and closing statements of the speakers, there will be plenty of room for questions and comments. The international series of European Debates is organized by the Association of German Speaking University Debating Societies in cooperation with Bürger Europas e.V.. In 22 debates in 7 countries, young people debate with EU politicians and experts about important issues for the future of Europe.

The European debates are held in cooperation with the European Parliament, the Allianz Cultural Foundation and the German Federal Press Office. The local organizer is the Lund Debating Society.

Brauchen wir eine liberalere Asylpolitik? Jedes Jahr kommen tausende Flüchtlinge auf ihren Weg nach Europa um; der Migrationsdruck aus den südlichen und östlichen Nachbarländern der EU und vom Balkan wächst. Wie sollen Deutschland und die Europäische Union damit umgehen, ohne sich und die Bevölkerung zu überfordern?

Gäste sind herzlich eingeladen, am Freitag, den 12. Dezember um 19.00 Uhr in der Stallburg, Reitschulgasse 2 (2. Stock),mitzudiskutieren. Der Eintritt ist kostenlos und ohne Anmeldung. Es debattieren auf der Pro-Seite Alev Korun (Grüne), Abgeordnete zum Nationalrat und Sprecherin für Menschenrechte, Migration und Integration, sowie auf der Contra-Seite Harald Kalasek (BZÖ), Landesparteiobmann des BZÖ in Wien.

Einschalten in die Debatte können sich alle Gäste: Die Veranstaltung findet im Format der Publikumsdebatte statt. So müssen sich die Redner den Fragen und Statements des Publikums stellen. Nach kurzen Eingangs- und Schlussstatements der Redner ist viel Raum für Fragen und Meinungsäußerungen.

Die internationale Veranstaltungsreihe von Europadebatten “Klartext Europa” wird von den Debattierclubs an Hochschulen in Kooperation mit Bürger Europas e.V. veranstaltet. Bei 22 Debatten in 8 Ländern debattieren junge Menschen mit Europapolitikern und Experten wichtige Fragen zur Zukunft Europas debattieren.

Die Europadebatten werden in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Europäischen Parlament, der Allianz Kulturstiftung sowie dem Presse- und Informationsamt der Bundesregierung (in Deutschland) durchgeführt. Ausrichter vor Ort ist der AFA-Debattierclub Wien.

Refuge Europe - Do we need a more welcoming asylum policy? This is one of the most important questions the EU has to ask itself, considering the houndreds of thousands refugees that try to seek for asylum in Europe. How much can we take in? Is the current policy sufficent for the challenge?

Guest speakers are Thijs Kievit (PvdA), Secretary of the Young Scoialists, and Tom Leijte (VVD), Chair of the Youth Organisation for Freedom and Democracy (JOVD).
