Do we need an end of the austerity policy in Europe? After years of financial, economic and debt crisis with severe cutbacks to the population of many countries, the worst seems to be over. But there is not much to see from the much-needed growth; there are few investments and the rate of unemployment in many countries is intolerably high. Is it time for an economic change of policy, away from austerity policy toward more public expenditures? Students, EU politicians and the broader public will debate these questions about the future of Europe.
Guests are warmly welcomed to join the debate on Monday, November 3rd at 7 pm at the Aula Magna of the University of Extremadura. The entry is free and without application. The guest speakers are: Ignacio Sánchez Amor (Diputado por Badajoz en el Congreso) and Miguel Ángel Bernal (Portavoz de Empleo del PSOE) from the Socialist Party and Francisca Rosa Romero (Portavoz del Partido Popular) Ezequiel Valentín Doblado (Representante de NNGG) from the Popular Party.
All guests can actively join the debate: The speakers have to face the questions and statements of the audience. After short opening and closing statements of the speakers, there will be plenty of room for questions and comments.
The international series of European Debates is organized by the Association of German Speaking University Debating Societies in cooperation with Bürger Europas e.V.. In 22 debates in 8 countries, young people debate with EU politicians and experts about important issues for the future of Europe.
The European debates are held in cooperation with the European Parliament, the Allianz Cultural Foundation and the German Federal Press Office. The local organizer is the Debating Society „Habla y Debate“.
